The mount as noted was produced in the U.S. The base is marked "O.I.P.-1955/BELGIQUE". ![]() The left side of the receiver has the rare milled dovetail slot for the sniper scope base and it is fitted with the correct scope base secured with two locking screws on each end. The right side flat of the receiver is marked "FABRIQUE NATIONALE D' ARMES DE GUERRE_HERSTAL BELGIQUE" and a late stamped serial number (34069) in English. This rifle has the late contract Egyptian Crest on the receiver ring with Farsi marking underneath with FN factory firing proofs on the left side. ![]() There were approximately 1,000 of these rifles actually produced that fall into the documented serial number range of 33600 to 34500. These rifles are discussed on pages 96-114 in the book: "The FN-49" by Johnson. This specific rifle is one of the scarce second pattern sniper rifles that is complete with its original, aluminum Echo scope mount and second pattern Czech manufactured MEOPTA sniper scope. ![]() This series of rifle was the very first attempt by Fabrique Nationale, Herstal to produce a successful semi-automatic rifle in the late 1940s/early 1950s. This is an exceptional example of a post war, second pattern FN Model 49 semi-automatic sniper rifle as produced by FN Herstal for the country of Egypt.
